ADC commissions Saraya Aqaba employees’ residence

The Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), the central development body for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), and the International Communication and Construction Consultancy Company recently signed an agreement for the construction of a residential project on a 30,000 sq. m. plot of land.

This project aims to provide housing for the engineers, construction workers and technicians who will be supervising and implementing the construction phase of the Saraya Aqaba project.

The agreement was signed between ADC Chairman and CEO Eng. Imad Fakhoury and the International Communication and Construction Consultancy Company General Manager Eng. Munther Halaseh. According to the agreement, the International Communication and Construction Consultancy Company will build a residential area on a 30,000 sq. m. plot of land, creating 3,000 job opportunities during the construction phase of the Saraya Aqaba project.

Estimated to be worth around JD5.5 million, the residential project will start within 30 days from signing the agreement. Eng. Fakhoury said, “Our agreement with the International Communication and Construction Consultancy Company is considered as yet another model of the emphasis ADC constantly places on public private partnership. Such a residential project is highly significant since it will guarantee a comfortable and stable working environment for the Saraya Aqaba employees, where they can consequently address the needs of both the project and themselves, granting them the best means possible in terms of quality, speed and delivery.”

Fakhoury added, “ADC, as the owner of the development and management rights for key utilities and services within ASEZ, chose to work with the International Communication and Construction Consultancy Company on this residential project due to the consultancy’s exceptional expertise and vast record in the field of construction and development. We are full supporters of the Saraya Aqaba project and we look forward to its development into one of the most significant tourism attractions on a regional level, whilst striving to provide all the necessary means for its success.”

From his side, Eng. Halaseh said, “We are glad to be participating in such a large-scale project as significant as Saraya Aqaba, and so we are honored to join forces with ADC where we have met a public sector partner with high standards on both professional and personal levels, with the hope that we expand our participation in the near future. We strive to deliver our highest efforts for the success of this project in a short and efficient timeframe, which will achieve the Saraya Aqaba objectives.” He added, “In addition to the residential project that the International Communication and Construction Consultancy Company will implement, our agreement with ADC consists of renting another plot of land encompassing an additional 30,000 sq. m. to be utilized for storage of material and equipment that will be used for the construction of the Saraya Aqaba project.”

Last month, Saraya Holding signed an MoU with ADC for the construction of a private residential project on a 50,000 sq. m. plot of land in ASEZ to provide residential units for the employees of Saraya Aqaba, to serve the administrators and employees in the facilities of the project after its completion. The Saraya Aqaba project, an affiliate of Saraya Jordan, is one of the largest real estate development and tourism projects in the area.

Its foundation stone was laid at the end of January 2006 and the project is to be completed by 2009. The project’s first phase is expected to generate 3,000 job opportunities, to increase to 9,000 job opportunities by the completion phase. Saraya Aqaba is a beachfront resort, in the western part of Aqaba, built around a man-made lagoon spanning 610,000 sq. m. worth over $600 million. The project is a partnership between the Social Security Corporation, the Arab Bank, ADC and other stakeholders. Upon its completion, the project will greatly contribute in transforming Aqaba into a world-class tourist destination on the Red Sea.
