RFC concludes its documentary workshop

The Royal Film Commission announced on Monday the conclusion of a documentary workshop that was held in collaboration with Cervantes and the Spanish Embassy and conducted by Dayra Arts. This workshop was held from April 12 - 25, and included 16 emerging filmmakers from Jordan.

Throughout the workshop, participants focused on using available tools, and high-quality and cost-efficient equipment to produce documentary films through teamwork. Each group received instructions on pre-production planning, cinematography, editing and were educated on various methods of shaping ideas into cinematic context.

Mr Basil Ramsis, one of the workshop’s instructors commented, “The workshop is designed to teach the participants how to produce high quality low-budget documentary films using modern techniques and cinematic language.” He also added, “The workshop is mainly divided into four parts: Directing the idea and the content, production, lighting and cinematography, and editing.”

Participants expressed their gratitude towards RFC in giving them the opportunity to learn the latest documentary filmmaking techniques, and supporting their ideas and actualizing them. Participant Razan Abdel Haq said, “I learned in this workshop how to make a high quality financially feasible film, and this knowledge has encouraged me to reinforce my independence in terms of creating my own films.

In fact, I consider this workshop as a turning point in my life.” It is worth mentioning that this workshop was instructed and conducted by Dayra Arts which is a cinema and theatre center created with the aim of supporting and promoting alternative and independent works with low budgets all around the Mediterranean. By holding this documentary workshop, RFC aims at encouraging young Jordanian talents to tell their stories and express their ideas through documentary film making whilst highlighting the use of multimedia as a tool of expression.
