Boeing supports Jordan’s Knowledge Stations

The Boeing Company is working together with Knowledge Station, an initiative administered by the National Information Technology Center and founded by the King Abdallah II Fund for Development, to provide additional knowledge stations and to help better equip those already operating.

The initiative is designed to ensure that every Jordanian has access to information and communications technology (ICT) in their local community. “The Knowledge Station initiative is a very worthwhile cause that is all about empowering Jordanian communities to take their place in the global technology revolution and develop skills and knowledge that would otherwise not be available to them,” said John Craig, Boeing vice president in the Middle East.

“We hope that our donation will contribute to the efforts being made by both the public and private sectors in Jordan to continue expanding the technological landscape in this country.” The Boeing grant will be used to allow 35,000 people to enjoy the Knowledge Station experience through funding the set-up costs of a new knowledge station.- It will also be used to purchase new ICT systems and program materials for Knowledge Station training courses and to recruit and provide training for new Knowledge Station staff.

The initiative of establishing Information Technology and Community Service Centers (renamed later Knowledge Stations) was launched in 2001.-This initiative is intended to implement IT in local communities in remote areas in preparation for the e-government process.- Since their inception, the various knowledge stations have trained a total of 72,987 people on basic computer literacy and other various advanced courses on how to utilize ICT towards enhancing their businesses, attaining health care information, participating in e-government, acquiring novel leadership and entrepreneurship qualities, and general awareness of the various social issues such as gender discrimination and child development. An additional 45,000 people have used the stations’ walk-in services that include Internet access, fax machines, photocopiers and various multimedia services.
