During the meeting, the head of the delegation said, “We view Jordan as a promising area for investment due to the overall economic reforms.” The delegation also showed interest in investing in the real estate field and launching joint housing projects with the Jordan Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDC).

IEAI, BC sigm MoU for al-Mushatta Project
* A memorandum of understanding was signed between The Investors and Eastern Arab for Industrial and Real Estate Investments (IEAI)—the owner of al-Mushatta Industrial Zone Project—and Babel Contracting (BC) under which BC will apply buildings and metal hangers as part of al-Mushatta Project. The memorandum, which was signed by the Chairman of IEAI, Fayez Tarawneh and BC Chairman, Ahmad Abu Zeid, states that BC, which includes Bashar Sharayha Co. Contractors, will be hired to design and apply metallic, multi-roofed buildings and metallic hangers with an area of 3,000 square meters for the purpose of housing investments and industrial events, which the zone will attract. “We believe in the importance of creating these venues to attract more investments,” said Tarawneh, adding that investing corporations working in al-Mushatta Zone are able to own and rent these buildings for use in their activities.

Arab chambers meet in Beirut
* A Jordanian delegation representing chambers of commerce and industry took part in the extraordinary meeting of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries, held on Sept. 12-13 in Beirut. President of Jordan Chamber of Commerce Haidar Murad said the meeting discussed the role of the Arab private sector in supporting Lebanon and its private sector. “The meeting also discussed holding a special seminar on rebuilding Lebanon to discuss ways of rebuilding the country and activating its economy,” said Murad. Japan extends $11.3 million grant
* An Exchange of Notes was signed on Sunday between Jordan and Japan for the provision of a $11.3 million grant, as part of the Japanese Non-Project Grant Aid program, to support Jordan’s balance of payments. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suhair Al-Ali and Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Shigenobu Kato signed the notes on behalf of the Jordanian and the Japanese governments. Al-Ali said that the signing of the notes complements joint efforts to strengthen bilateral ties in areas of common concern, noting the funds will be used in support of government reform efforts through the implementation of several key social and economic development projects. Ambassador Kato reaffirmed his country’s commitment to providing Jordan with further needed financial and technical support programs to advance and strengthen the two countries’ bilateral ties.
