HBTF wins Best Bank Award
The London-based preeminent international finance magazine Euromoney has named Housing Bank for Trade & Finance (HBTF) as the “Best Bank in Jordan” citing its leadership in Jordan’s financial sector.
The award is part of the annual “Euromoney Awards for Excellence”, regarded as the benchmark awards for financial services globally.
Euromoney said, “The Housing Bank for Trade and Finance delivered a 17 percent rise in operating income to JD203.7 million, while maintaining its position as the lead arranger of infrastructure finance in the country. In an increasingly competitive market Euromoney believes that banks will need to increase use of electronic channels to stay ahead of the game and Housing Bank was a leader in this regard.”
“The bank has also continued to deliver its commitment to using quality IT systems. It has the largest ATM network (25 percent of all in the country) and its electronic banking services also grew rapidly,” it added.
HBTF Chairman Dr Michel Marto expressed pleasure at the award saying “it reaffirms the great confidence in the Bank and in its performance and capabilities displayed by its clients and international financial institutions.”
Marto added that “HBTF’s commitment to the ideals of innovation and excellence has been behind the strong performance we have been witnessing, and the large recognition we continue to receive.
MEDFA meets in Amman
The Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA) held its annual board meeting for the first time in Jordan at Le Royale Hotel.
Commemorating this very important event, Minister of Tourism Osama Dabbas joined board members for the press conference that took place after the meeting’s proceedings. The event was also attended by CEO of Tax Free World Association (TFWA), Olivier Charriaud; President of Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA), Anthony Chalhoub; General Manager of Jordanian Duty Free Shops (JDF), Haitham Majali; and 8 other board members from MEDFA.
MEDFA’s board meeting in Jordan was held to coincide with JDF’s 10th anniversary celebrations on Saturday June 16 at the Four Season’s Hotel.
In honor of this occasion Minister Dabbas said, “We at Ministry of Tourism feel that we are partners with JDF, and I am confident that together we can promote Jordan to tourists around the world.”
Majali said that JDF and the Jordanian tourism industry at large are very proud to host MEDFA and its board meeting for the first time in Jordan, “We are honored to celebrate this occasion alongside our 10-year anniversary; JDF has made giant strides, and this meeting serves to solidify this fact.”
Arabian Business Awards i2 Group: Fastest Growing Company in 2006
i2, the region’s largest and most diverse mobile phone provider was named Fastest Growing Company of the Year during the Arabian Business Awards.
At the ceremony held in Riyadh, CEO of i2 Group, Abdul Hameed Al-Sunaid, said, “The recognition deserves to go to all of i2’s dedicated employees across the region who have made the company a success story, reflecting its exceptional performance year after year.” This year, i2 reported revenues of $1.3 billion for 2006, up from $837 million. The company expects to double their revenue in 2007. The International Advertising Association – Jordan Chapter (IAA Jordan) was among the sponsors at The Night of The Adeaters, a festival that puts on a show of creative ads from around the globe.
