The world's biggest ICT trade fair and congress: CeBIT Hannover 2002

Next spring the international ICT industry will gather in Hannover, Germany for its annual summit meeting at CeBIT, the world's leading event for information and telecommunications technology.

CeBIT is a driving force behind technological advancement and accurately mirrors current market trends. This manifests itself in the high level of international participation. CeBIT 2002 will boast 3210 direct exhibitors from outside Germany. The largest single group comes from Taiwan (564 exhibitors), followed by the USA (532) and the UK (354). The country with the highest growth rate is the People's Republic of China. 104 exhibitors have signed up for CeBIT 2002, as compared with 25 in 2001. This impressive increase is due to the activities of Deutsche Messe AG in the Chinese ICT sector, especially in connection with CeBIT Asia. The visitor statistics for CeBIT also make impressive reading. CeBIT 2001 attracted more than 171,000 foreign guests, including 33,600 from Asia and 1600 from Australia/Oceania. In its role as the world's number one ICT fair, CeBIT traditionally boasts an outstanding line-up of speakers at the opening ceremony.

The keynote speaker at CeBIT 2002 will be Steve Ballmer, President and CEO of the Microsoft Corporation, Redmont, USA. The German ICT industry will be represented by Dr Volker Jung, President of the Frankfurt-based German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media. The Fair will be officially opened by the German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroder.

Occupying a total of 27 exhibition halls, CeBIT 2002 will feature three core product categories, six sub-categories, nine joint presentations, plus six "Exchanges" focusing on key issues relating to the ICT industry. In addition to this numerous forums and corporate presentations will provide the necessary theoretical background. At CeBIT 2001 these lectures reached 40,000 registered visitors. Six Technology Exchange Pavillions After a successful launch at CeBIT this year, CeBIT 2002 will again be featuring a series of "exchange" programs based on current topics in the ICT industry. The six technology exchanges are the "Linux Exchange", "Satellite Exchange", "DSL Exchange", "Bluetooth Exchange", "WiFi Exchange" and the "Fibre Channel Exchange".

At each of the individual "exchange"pavilions, exhibitors from around the world will be on hand to inform interested visitors about their products and services. In addition, there will be half-day conferences covering topics within the sector.
