Jordan : A prime destination plan to improve tourism

JORDAN, WHICH played a significant role in the history of the region, is witnessing today commendable developments in different aspects of life, including tourism. Tourism has been developing as an industry providing a great contribution to Jordan’s economy. Following is a proposed program to activate tourism in Jordan: The adoption of a well-prepared and long-term policy to provide the tourism infrastructure with basic facilities relating to qualified staff, improving roads and rest houses, creating and encouraging touristic aptitude among Jordanians and creating a “totalistic tourism climate”.

These must comprise “dynamic operations” that include the setting up of a general tourism policy, tactical plans to implement the policy, public relations programs with the touristic trade and tourists at large. This is in addition to creating attraction zones in Jordan and determining what I call the touristic audience, i.e. tourists who spend money.

All this must have a strategic perspective that is about facilitating and encouraging the participation of the private sector in touristic ventures and establishing an institute for tourism education.

All this, however, must have a marketing campaign whose objective is to attract tourists from all walks of life whether from the local, the regional or the international markets.

There is also direct marketing involving mailing lists to be sent to specific trade organizations and audiences, the holding of conferences would be a help, press relation programs as well as brochures, leaflets.

This is a modest attempt to encourage more in-depth studies and research to improve tourism in Jordan, hoping to make it a prime destination.
