|CeBIT demonstrates regional potential
|Doris Petrson, managing director of Hannover-Messe International, affirmed in a press conference at the Beylikduza Tuyap Fair (or the CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia 2002) which opened last week in Turkey.
She said this is the 10th year of the show reflecting on many years of experience in information and communications technologies' markets in Turkey.
She tackled the key facts of CeBIT-Bilisim Eurosia 2002 as well as the globalization strategy of Deutsche Messe AG, focusing on worldwide activities of ICT events. Petrson highlighted the importance of the ICT industry as a catalyst for economic growth, as well as a key to education.
"Following the establishment of the first joint venture in Turkey, Deutsche Messe AG employed further investments in the country and started up three additional joint ventures since the beginning of this year." Peterson said.
Together with its Turkish subsidiary Hannover-Messe International, Istanbul and their local partners outlined their portfolio which includes trade fairs such as broadcast, cable and satellite, machinery, automation, energy, electrotech, welding, material handling, chemistry, automotive industry, petroleum gas industry, metalworking, iron, steel production, heating, cooling and air-ventilation.
Petrson stressed the importance of ICT technologies for economic growth. "It provides the necessary infrastructure for today's information society. They enable us to build, organize and make use of all available knowledge and to covert it into innovation," she added. She highlighted the importance of ICT technologies in education, saying history has impressively proved in the past e-learning has a huge impact on economic development and prosperity of any society.
Regarding the Turkish ICT industry, Petersen noted Turkey's economy experienced a serious downturn in 2001 and is still recovering. "We strongly believe in Turkey's potential in recovering and regaining its strength very soon."
Erden Ozel, vice president of Hannover Fairs Interpro Fairs Inc, also noted CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia continues to present new opportunities for both domestic and international information professionals by providing new services and developments.
He told reporters the CeBIT Bilisim Eurosia 2002 is the largest and most important ICT trade event for the emerging markets and the entire Eurasian region. He added CeBIT is the right place to find solutions for your country's needs.
This year, nearly 900 exhibitors from 20 countries filled the fairground of 24,000 square meters. The exhibition also hosted nearly 160,000 visitors with business delegations and 30 press members representing 10 countries.
"The importance of this year's Bilisim is reflected in the speeches given by well-known persons like Mesut Yilmaz, Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, as well other government officials, members of Parliament, and the international mass media," Ozel concluded.
