Holiday Which Magazine
This is how hotels used to be run, with immaculate attention to detail, exceptionally friendly staff, a manager who sits you down and offers you tea, and a waiter who gives free lifts in his own car. The Hisham may be wildly decorated in classic kitsch seventies style, but itís worth its weight in gold. Itís in a leafy back street in the diplomatic district, as has an exclusive feel, and is patronized by journalists, expatriates, and businessmen. The staff are particularly welcoming, which is exactly what you need in rather impersonal Amman. So ignore the swirly carpets, leatherette sofas, and nylon bedspreads, and enjoy the good food served under an awning, and the stimulating conversation of Mr. Hisham, which is not his real name, but what the guests call him.
Tourist Magazine / Aquatours
This small, friendly, family run hotel was recommended to us by a local Jordanian. We decided to check it out personally and found it to be an ideal base for a stopover in Amman.
It is situated in the diplomatic area of Amman city, about 8 or 9 minutes taxi ride from the site of the Roman Theatre and close to the souks (markets) and shopping areas. The ambiance, the excellent cuisine, friendly atmosphere and inexpensive rates make a hotel we are happy to recommend as your base in Northern Jordan.

The Hisham Hotel In Amman, (962-6) 4642720, fax (962-6) 464 7540, a small hotel with 22 rooms on a quiet street, is a good choice in Amman.
A car with a driver can be arranged through the Hisham Hotel.
Owned and managed by an old, "so British" gentleman, Hisham hotel is the meeting point of foreign intellectuals. Very friendly staff and reasonable rates.
