America Online Co-founder Lunches with Jordan ICT Community

Set at the Four Seasonís hotel was the luncheon that int@j hosted in the honor of Mr. Stephen Case, Co-founder of America Online, and his wife Mrs. Jean Case, CEO of The Case Foundation.

The luncheon gathered key members of the ICT sector, and was attended by Their Excellencies Dr. Fawaz H. Zuíbi, Minister of ICT, and Dr. Bassem Awadallah, Minister of Planning.

Mr. Marwan Juma, Chairman of int@j, kicked off the event by giving a brief overview on the National REACH initiative, and clarifying int@jís role within the industry. Mr. Juma informed Mr. and Mrs. Case that although Jordan may be poor in natural resources, it compensates in its strong Human Resources.

For his part,Dr. Zu'bi stressed that the Ministry is working diligently to help in driving the ICT companies forward, and to help them rise to the challenges that lie ahead of them. The Minister mentioned to his guests that the reason Jordan is unique, and has tremendous potential, is because of its strong public-private-partnership.

Mr. Case took center stage, and expressed to the attendees his optimism about Jordan and its future in ICT, and commended Jordanís ICT business leaders on their efforts, and the government for its support. Mr. Case was impressed with the amount of progress that has happened in the Jordanian ICT industry in the past three years.

Mr. Case stated that the only roadblock that Jordan faces is itís stability within the region, which makes foreign companies hesitant to invest, however, Jordan needs to build awareness about its ICT sector, and to create momentum to give people the comfort and to build trust.

Regarding the ICT industry as a whole, Mr. Case believes that even more progress will be made in the next few years, ďI am a believer in the importance of technology and the internet in terms of how you can create an economic engine that creates hope around the world,Ē said Mr. Case.

Mr. Case then resumed his position at the podium after lunch was served, this time for a Q&A session. After a few queries about the U.S. companiesí expectations from the Jordanian companies, and advice from Mr. Caseís experience with the AOL venture, Mr. Case concluded the session advising the Jordanian ICT community not to lose sight of the vision, as Jordan is poised to emerge as the regional hub of technology.
