International Volunteer Day event in Jordan

The United Nations Volunteers Program in Jordan is celebrating its International Volunteer Day, on 5 December 2003. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly as the day to recognize and celebrate the voluntary contributions that millions of people worldwide make to help achieve international development goals.

International Volunteer Day provides an opportunity for individual volunteers, volunteer-involving organizations and private sector corporations to work together in projects and campaigns in order to bring added visibility to their contributions to national economic and social development at local, national and international levels.

This year the United Nations Volunteer Programme in Jordan is planning to inaugurate an Information Technology Community Center in the Al Moqarieyh Organization for Social Development located in Shobak, Mann Governorate. This organization was establish in 1982 and relies specifically on voluntary contributions from the community it serves. It is envisioned that this IT Community Center will support the Al Moqarieyh Organization to provide better development related services to the community particularly in the areas of education, health and environmental agriculture extension services. This endeavor reflects the King’s priority to utilize Information and Communication Technologies to bridge the digital divide in Jordan and provide socio-economic opportunities for all segments of the Jordanian society.

In lieu of this event, and as a demonstration of ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’, the United Nations Volunteer programme would greatly appreciate the consideration of int@j or any of its members in sponsoring this event by donating dial-up Internet account or Pre-paid Internet Subscription cards, printer, or scanner set to be placed in the Al Moqarieyh IT Community Center. In recognition of your contribution we would be more than pleased to include int@j and its affiliates name in all press releases in local newspapers and radio as well as on the Internet.
