Business Automation Seminar Series Raise Profile of Local IT Industry

Over 175 Jordanian businessmen gathered on Monday for ‘The Business Automation Seminar Series’ organised by int@j, to demonstrate the development, capabilities and technologies developed by Jordanian IT companies. Six local companies participated in the one-day event, giving presentations and demonstrations on IT solutions, services and products that are built for all business sectors. In addition, three donor agencies; JUSBP, EJADA and NAFES delivered presentations on their role in supporting businesses across different sectors.

“The first-of-its-kind seminar is considered the cornerstone of a broader campaign which aims to spread awareness of the capabilities and the services of Jordanian IT companies to facilitate business growth and efficiencies,” said Ra’ed Bilbessi, CEO of int@j. “The participation of six of Jordan’s reputable IT companies and three donors enabled participants to think about the opportunities which local IT companies present in implementing solutions to fit their business requirements.”

Microsoft delivered the first key note presentation, on ‘The Impact Of Technology On Information Work’, which focussed on today’s business challenges and briefed attendees about Microsoft’s Office System Value and Windows Share Point services. This was followed by six Jordanian companies delivering presentations focused on products and solutions developed in the Kingdom by Jordanian employees.

The Jordanian participating companies talked about how their products and services could enhance business and included the following presentations; United Business Application (UBA), talked about its partnership with ACCPAC and its versatile accounting system that brings efficiency to business. UBA followed by talking about its various services, such as; business application services, end-to-end business management application and e-business services.

Tejari-Jordan, the most recognised business-to-business brand in the Middle East talked about the benefits of its use. It covers all major commodities and has over 1000 suppliers in 100 commodity groups with 50,000 catalogued items. Jordan Telecom focused on its value-added services portfolio, which includes a Data Center, Contact Center and ARSEL collaborative messaging service. These services are aimed at giving businesses scaleable and flexible answers to their business needs.

Globitel shared its expertise in manufacturing and developing unified messaging, digital recording and monitoring, as well as supplying Contact Centers, IVR systems, message delivery platforms and tele management applications to the region. Sigma Soft talked to participants on consulting, contracting and financing services and its web-based management systems. General Computers and Electronics shared with businessmen details of its cutting-edge services that it provides to both the public and private sectors.

To finish the day, the three donor agencies talked about the support they provide to Jordanian businesses. Jordan United States Business Partnership (JUSBP), briefed the attendees on how they can benefit from services, such as; management and marketing support to increase export sales and expand regional and international trade capabilities. The Euro Jordanian action for the Development of Enterprise (EJADA) told attendees its goal of enhancing the private sector, particularly small-to-medium enterprises, through financial and technical support and raising exports through the Free Trade Agreement with Europe. The National Fund For Enterprise Support (NAFES), stressed on the Fund’s role in assisting small-to-medium size organisations to develop their capabilities and enhance local and regional competition.

“We believe that this first seminar was a great success; the attendees were able to further understand the advantages provided by local Jordanian IT companies. Business opportunities were initiated and this proves that local IT companies can contribute heavily to the development of businesses across different sectors. We were asked by different companies to organize similar events in the near future and this was very promising, as the purpose of this event was to further promote the local IT market and I believe that we are walking on the right path,” added Bilbessi.

The Business Automation Seminar is the first meeting in a series held by int@j and is expected to run at least three times a year to promote and support local IT companies within the home market.
