World trade week in Jordan : Exporting is key to economic growth

In an effort to boost Jordanian companies’ export capacity, the Amman World Trade Center (AWTC) announces that it is organizing world trade week Jordan, beginning August 1 in Amman.

Export is a key element in the development and growth of the Jordanian economy. Increased exports provide Jordanian companies the opportunity to increase profits, to diversify markets, and to maintain steady production rates in manufacturing. Jordanian exports increased by 25 percent in 2001, and more than 19 percent in the first five months of 2002.

2003 recorded a modest 7 percent growth, attributed to war in Iraq. The good news is that the first four months of 2004 have been strong, with more than JD 679 million worth of goods exported. If this trend continues, export growth could reach 20 percent in 2004.

Quoting His Majesty King Abdallah, general manager of AWTC, Mr Samer Asfour said “We won’t stop, we can’t stop, until we have found the 21st century promise for every Jordanian. We have the opportunity and responsibility to help Jordanian companies by promoting Jordanian products and best practices in exporting.”

World trade week Jordan aims to assist Jordanian companies—those that are new to exporting, and those that are established—adopt best practices in exporting and export planning, and to provide a platform for companies to meet international trade specialists, delegates and partners.

A trade show, a series of Export Training Workshops, sector-specific seminars, and trade days (for the US, EU, and Arab Markets) will be organized by the Amman World Trade Center in partnership with the Jordan Export Development Corporation (JEDCO), the Jordan Investment Board (JIB), the Jordanian American Businessmen Association (JABA), the Euro-Jordanian action for the development of enterprise (EJADA), the European Jordanian Export Programme (EJEP), the Jordan-US Business Partnership (JUSBP), the USAID-funded Amir Program, and other local and international support organizations and chambers of industry and trade.

Commercial and trade departments of international embassies in Jordan, as well as representatives of various world trade centers around the world will be participating in world trade week.
