Entrepreneurs’ forum paves way for youngsters

Aspiring entrepreneurs in Madaba, tired of standing by and watching others succeed with their businesses, gathered on July 27 at a special entrepreneurs’ forum. The forum, the fourth in a series of seven held around the Kingdom, aims to encourage young people to start or develop their own businesses, and to educate them about the assistance that micro-finance and business development services providers can give.

The Middle East Micro-Credit Company (MEMCC) in Jordan hosted the event. “Those who attend such events are ordinary people with extraordinary dreams,” said Seif Mdanat, operations manager at MEMCC. “They are looking for advice on how to start their businesses and looking to see how others have been successful.”

Mdanat pointed out that these events are not just for would-be entrepreneurs, but seasoned business people can benefit too by learning about micro-finance loans and the types of services that are available to help start and expand their businesses. The forums motivated people to become entrepreneurs by showing how others have succeeded. Fayzah Al Haroot, an MEMCC client from Madaba, discussed her experience on how she started her successful kindergarten business and how the MEMCC provided the resources she needed through two separate loans.

The forum uses an innovative interactive play designed to encourage members of the audience to start or develop their own businesses. The play’s cast and facilitator show the hurdles associated with business start up and engage the audience to help the actors overcome these obstacles.

The forum also connects people who seek financial and business development services with those who can provide them. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet representatives from these companies and consider those that would best serve their business needs. MEMCC, a leading provider of micro-finance loans, presented information on the products and services it offers to clients in Madaba, and to other borrowers around the country.

MEMCC has 10 branches covering the Kingdom with loans ranging from JD 245 to 25,000. Dina Dakhqan, executive director of the Young Entrepreneurs Association, also gave a presentation of the first Arabic language website for entrepreneurs, called “Alriyadi”. The website serves as a one-stop, online guide for entrepreneurs starting a business or developing one.
