Airbus to renew its fleet after
talks fell through with US
The acquisition on an operating lease basis of nine or 10 new A320 and A321 short- and medium-range passenger planes is part of the airline's strategic plan for 2004-2008, the company said in a statement.
The new planes will replace Jordanian's old A310 and A320 aircraft, also built by Airbus.
Royal Jordanian said it had been negotiating the purchase of planes from US manufacturer Boeing but that discussions failed to reach an agreement.
Royal Jordanian's fleet currently includes 14 Airbus linking 45 destinations around the world.
