int@j's Business Automation Seminar III

int@j's Business Automation Seminar III Early Monday morning found Jordan's IT industry's top notch companies gathered in a seminar to present their latest products, services and solutions that facilitate business operations in both the public and private sectors, making it the third in a series of similar seminars entitled "Business Automation Series Seminars" that are a part of int@j's ongoing efforts to raise awareness and strengthen the link between the Jordanian IT sector and the business community.

Six member companies participated in the one-day event; namely General Computers and Electronics (GCE), Tejari (Jordan), OFFTEC Group, Microsoft Corporation, Specialized Technical Services (STS) / BusinessOne, and Cisco Systems Corporation. The audience comprised professionals from the government, banking, academic, corporate and IT sectors.

GCE headed off the seminar with a presentation on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and its applications in web mapping, military departments, vehicle tracking, and tourism, among others. The presentation stressed on the high efficacy of the satellite imagery, as the speaker displayed how cars in the streets are visible in images taken by satellites that are 700 km away from the Earth's surface.

Tejari, Middle Eastís premier online open, horizontal business-to-business e-marketplace, spoke of its role in terms of e-commerce and e-procurement. It explained its function as a service provider enabling both buyers and sellers to transact and share information about a variety of goods and services via the Internet on the one hand and providing a single point of contact for buyers and suppliers on the other, through spot-purchasing and on-line auctions that enable participantsí real-time access to new markets and significant cost savings.

On their part, OFFTEC, the first IT company in Jordan -established in Jerusalem, 1910- described their latest developments in business automation solutions to facilitate transactions in a variety of sectors, such as issuance solutions for the banking sector, and an in-house developed ERP system for medium-sized corporations.

Microsoft continued the loop by introducing its SharePoint Portal Server 2003 which enables enterprises to develop an intelligent portal that connects users, teams, and knowledge so that people can take advantage of relevant information across business processes to help them work more efficiently.

Following was STS / BusinessOne with a presentation entitled "CommandOne Ė CS Express Edition", a solution for small and medium entities seeking an interactive and collaborative Customer Service enablement platform.

To wrap it up, Cisco Systems Corporation presented its new Integrated Service Router (ISR). The speaker described in technical terms the new architecture entailed in this router, its applications and the means by which it ensures secure connectivity, which is a main concern in the current market.

The Business Automation Seminar is the third meeting in a series initiated in December 2003 and organized by int@j, and will be held periodically to promote and support local IT companies within the home market.
