JOSTONE, lucrative potential for exports and investments

In association with JOSTONE (Jordan Stone and Tile Exporters Association), Euro-Jordanian Action for the Development of Enterprise (EJADA) held a seminar in Amman recently under the auspices of its Euro-Jordanian Export Programme (EJEP) to discuss the achievements of the Stone Strategic Marketing Group under Phase I.

Attending the seminar also were representatives from the private and public sectors, the Chambers of Industry and Trade, and donor programmes.

The seminar discussed the challenges facing JOSTONE with the participants exchanging views and proposing alternative solutions to enhance investments and exports in this important sector. The meeting presented a platform to concentrate more on certain topics and to highlight the main aspects in the sector that need to be addressed.

Experts in the field recommended regular meetings and discussions with all entities, involved in the development of the stone sector project, to formulate a clear and viable work plan; to elect a neutral department that will supervise the execution of the plan; and to procure investments and enhance exports.

Jordan has huge reserves of stone, and all efforts must be coordinated and consolidated to remove all obstacles that impede local and foreign investments in this lucratively potent sector. The Stone sector is considered one of the major promising industries in Jordan.

The sector has been restructured under the JOSTONE umbrella, and exports rose significantly to US$25 million. Its export market has expanded to include Europe, the US, and Southeast Asia in addition to the Arab countries. JOSTONE aims to raise its exports to US$100 million during the next five years. The Euro-Jordanian Export Programme (EJEP) is a programme developed by the Euro-Jordanian Action for the Development of Enterprise (EJADA), which aims to increase the export potential of Jordanís various industries.

The strategic vision of EJEP is based on the concept that companies, within the same industrial sector, can be grouped according to their level of export potential and where segmentation can be established against international benchmarking standards.
