Jordan to import Chinese sheep
* Minister of Agriculture Akef Zu’bi discussed on Monday with the Chinese Ambassador in Amman Luo Xingwu the bilateral cooperation in agriculture and the exchange of expertise. The meeting also touched on discussing procedures related to importing sheep from China and other related issues.

Petra attracts 370,000 tourists
* More than 370,000 tourists visited the red- rose city of Petra in 2005, with an increase of 25 percent. “Between 1000 to 2000 persons is the daily range of visitors to the ancient city of Petra,” Director of Petra Reservation Suleiman Farajat told Jordan News Agency. On the other hand, groups of tourists celebrated the New Year’s night at Petra’s hotels. A number of experts in the tourism field attributed the active tourism movement in Petra to the promotion campaigns as well as to the secure and stable climate in Jordan despite the difficult regional situation.

Bahrain receives Desert Irises
* The Jordan Light Vehicles Manufacturing Company of King Abdallah Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) has recently provided Bahraini Interior Ministry with Four Desert Iris armored vehicles. Earlier a Bahrain delegation representing the Interior Ministry had visited the Company’s factories and praised the advanced level of the products. KADDB had earlier sold a number of Desert Iris vehicles to UAE, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and the Kurdish region in north Iraq. The Jordan Armed Forces are expected to receive, at the end of the current month, 148 vehicles.

Imports of fuel derivatives
* A source at the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) announced that the company placed an order last year for 250,000 gas canisters to be delivered in installments. Already 188,211 had been received, and the remaining 61,789 would be delivered during this year. He added that JPRC has tendered for the import of 169,000 tons of liquefied gas to cover market’s demand, which exceeds the local production. The source further announced that JPRC will import from Saudi ARAMCO 855,000 tons of diesel fuel this year in addition to 36,000 tons of gasoline to cover the period February to April of this year.
