Lebanon
and Jordan hold discussions on transport sector.
Marseille, the 6th of march 2002
As we know, Jordan's transport sector is one of the pillar of the national economy,
due to the strategic location of the country in the region. However, the country
only access to the sea is the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
On the other hand, Lebanon has great expectations to keep its prominent hub role
transport-wise, and is investing in port infrastructure.
| This is
the framework of the meeting that took place yesterday in the Port of Beirut where
an official delegation of Jordan's Ministry of Transports has
benn received by Mr Hassan Coraytem, chairman of the port concessionary and Mr
Toufic Lteif, general secretary of the administrative commitee. |
|
Discussions rolled on the possible means to be implement in order to intensify
bilateral relations on land and sea transport.
Despite the countries don't share border an the proximity of Suez straight, Jordan
and Lebanon could reach an interesting complementarity in transport by creating
an Aqaba Beirut land axe.
