It is now looking to the future with confidence. Indeed, IT sector is about to become one of the pillars of Jordan's economy. This is the result of a policy of excellence and competency that has been followed both by private companies and by the administration which succeeded in providing the private sector with very skilled engineers and executives. ICT is in the continuation of what Jordan has always been : a crossroad between East and West, the Arab and Occidental world, a link between civilisations. The same phenomenon occurs for new technologies, Jordan is already an ICT key player in the region. The country can rely on a strong network of companies involved in the software development industry which is probably the motive power of all the IT sector. Softwares developed in Jordan enjoy a regional, if not international, recognition of quality. Many companies are exporting their solutions abroad and if the majority of the contracts are destined to the Arab countries today, there is no doubt that European and American markets are more than potential targets, they represent a tremendous development opportunity. It is worth saying that Jordan enjoys a free trade agreement with US and that in the close future the country will be part of the Euromed program that aims at creating a free trade zone within EU and the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. The business community in Jordan is highly aware of the stake IT represents for tomorrow's business and all the companies that have reached a certain level of development are connected to the internet. The network offers a good connection speed (comparable to the French one for dial-up connection) and the introduction of high speed connections is a success that gathers more and more enterprises every day. Concerning mobile phones, two operators are competing on a market that has boomed over the past years. They offer the full range of services to a fast growing number of clients.
