Industry
Industry in Jordan is at the dawn of a new era.
The integration of the country in the World Trade Organisation, the ratification
of the US Jordan Free Trade Agreement and of the Euromed program, is the starting
point of Jordan's industry introduction to the global economy.

Competition will be tough and the industrial sector has to implement structural
changes to face it. The Jordanian industry has comparative advantages against
the foreign one cost-wise, but the free access to the domestic market for imported
goods represents a threat for the local industry. However, Jordan can rely on
the extraction of its natural resources.
Potash, for industrial and agricultural use, as well as phosphates have been traditional
sources of revenue for the country. These resources are almost unlimited and the
demand is sustained as this minerals enter in the composition of fertilisers.
The mining industry is the main industrial employer in Jordan. Once again, industries
complying with international standards have better chances to enter the competition.
Quality certifications, modern production tools, qualified labour force are sufficient
to ensure companies viability given the cost effectiveness of Jordan produced
goods.
In a rather limited domestic market, another important aspect is the export orientation
of the companies. Jordanian products and know-how enjoy a favourable image of
quality in neighbouring countries and it is a fact on which companies will have
to capitalise.
The success stories of existing enterprises that have implemented this policy
witnesses the confidence one should have in the industrial sector's future.
Programs are implemented for smaller production units to obtain quality labels
and certifications. The opening of the sector compels companies to review their
production processes and marketing strategies to keep their market shares and
reinforce their position.
Once this will be achieved, the future shall be considered with serenity. You
