PLO's declaration of independent Palestinian state in West Bank and Gaza Strip
has been recognised by Jordan.
Jordan's administrative divisions are divided into eight governorates or provinces.
Districts, subdistricts, municipalities, towns, and villages are the subdivisions
of those governorates.

On
a religious point of view, most Jordanians are Muslims Sunni, some Muslims Shia.
Other religious groups represent about 10 percent of the population, with a majority
of Christians (Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants) and some Druzes.
Jordan's mother tongue is Arabic. But English is widely spoken especially for
business, in major urban areas and touristic places (most of the country).
Literacy for people under the age of 15 nearly reaches 100 percent when more than
70 percent of adults are literate. Education is free up to admission to university.
There are still few health problems in Jordan principally due to the lack of water.
But the spreading of doctors and medical equipment in rural areas is constantly
increasing the sanitary level. Health facilities and medical personnel in main
cities have brought life expectancy to 67 years over the past years.
