Jordan
Mobile Telephone Services
(JMTS / Fastlink),
founded in 1995, was the first operator to introduce mobile phone services into
Jordan. In the year 2000, Fastlink became
a subsidiary of ORASCOM Telecom, the largest GSM network operator in the Middle
East and Africa, with more than 19 cellular operators in the region, and a company
that is committed to expanding its investments in the Jordanian market place.
Ever since its inception, Fastlink has driven
penetration, achieving a strong subscriber growth, with the number of users currently
totaling more than 550,000. Through more than 600 cell sites, Fastlink's
coverage currently stands at 99 percent of the population. Fastlink's
build strategy now rests with expanding services, boosting indoor coverage and
increasing capacity to reach 1,000,000 mobile subscribers. The company enjoys
an extensive distribution network comprising more than 5,000 outlets nationwide.
Fastlink is today driving beyond the boundaries
of voice communications to lead the mobile data revolution in the Jordanian market.
It was the first to roll out into commercial service WAP connectivity in the Middle
East and to enter into mobile banking partnerships with leading banks in Jordan.
The company is currently breaking new ground in preparing to introduce the next
generation of very high-speed mobile data services using General Packet Radio
Services (GPRS).
Fastlink, a company that employs 550 employees,
548 of them Jordanian, firmly believes in empowering local human resources as
an engine for continued progress and expansion. Upholding that belief, Fastlink
considers itself well positioned to actively take part in enabling Jordan and
its youthful, talented and skilled workforce.
Finally, the company strongly believes in giving back to the Jordanian society,
and is instrumental in leading charity and community service activities. Fastlink
is proud of its track record of lending continuous support to the programs of
the Ministry of Social Development, as well as welfare initiatives running throughout
the year.
