Mount Nebo

Is just a thirty minute drive from Amman.
Mount Nebo overlooks the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Mt. Nebo is famed as the place where Moses stood watching the promised land and is throught to be buried.
Pilgrims have come to this site of his tomb throughout the ages. A monastery, perched upon this peak - where on a clear day one can see Jerusalem - contains mosaics that retell the story of ancient times.

Mt. Nebo is also located on the outskirts of the quaint town of madaba, where Byzantine churches boast lovely mosaics, the most famous or which is the 3rd Century A.D. mosaic map of the Holy Land. Madaba is also renowned as the traditional rug weaving center of Jordan.
